Plain roti is a soft, thin unleavened flatbread that is similar in appearance to a Mexican tortilla or burrito. Its technique was brought to Trinidad and Tobago by Indentured servants. Plain roti is also known as Sada roti in Trinidad and Tobago, Chapatti in India, Paratha or Oil Roti in Guyana and Plain roti in the majority of other Caribbean islands like St. Vincent and the Grenadines. Plain roti can be eaten for breakfast, lunch or dinner with a variety of stews, curry meat, fish or vegetarian dishes.
